We are blessed in the diocese to have the team at NYMO as the department for youth ministry. Throughout the year they lead their own events for young people assisted by adult volunteers from across the diocese as well as supporting parishes in developing leaders and trying to offer various forms of youth ministry on a local level. Rick regularly works collaboratively with the team at NYMO to support their work across the diocese and in the youth ministry here in Corby. Rick also organises groups from our parishes to attend the NYMO events throughout the year like the ones below.
Lux is a weekend retreat for around 100 young people from around the Diocese and takes place usually on the first weekend of February every year. It is for anyone in secondary school and is definitely a highlight of the year. There are so many different activities throughout the weekend to grow in faith and friendship. This year we took 15 from Corby and hope to take a similar number next year. Check out the the highlights of LUX.GOLD below.
This year's Lux takes the theme of LUX. VOX - vox being Latin for voice. During 2020, Catholics in England and Wales are being called to focus on the word of God in scripture, the theme of the year being 'the God who speaks'.
So that is what we will be exploring at Lux - being able to listen to the voice of God in prayer, in scripture and in the general activities of our everyday lives. It is always a great weekend bringing together young Catholics from school year's 7-13 (age 11-18) to explore and celebrate faith in a variety of ways! If you're interested in coming or want to know more then get in touch with Rick our youth minister or go to www.nymo.org/lux
Youth Ministry Conference 2020
Taking place on Saturday 7th March 2020, the youth ministry conference explores further the 'Christus Vivit' document released by Pope Francis after 2018's Synod on Young People, Faith and Discernment.
The day will explore how we as parishes can respond to the findings of the Synod in supporting, encouraging and engaging young people in their faith and in the parish.
The day is for anyone who loves young people in our church whether you are clergy, catechists, youth ministers, youth group leaders, interested parents or someone who wants to do more to share the great gift of faith with the younger generations.
Speak to Rick for more details or go to www.nymo.org/conference
True Survivor: Beyond the Wild
This collaboration between NYMO and Beyond the Wild offers the chance to develop both physical and spiritual survival skills. You will spend this weekend camping out in tents, building shelters, lighting fires, preparing wild food and praying together while growing in faith and community.
It is for those aged 14-17 and there is a weekend for young ladies and a weekend for young men usually taking place in May. Check out the trailer for True Survivor below.
Lifeteen Summer Camp
Lifeteen is an Catholic organisation in America who aim to 'bring teens closer to Christ'. The Archdiocese of Birmingham alongside our own Diocese has taken their format of a Summer Camp to run the 'best week of the year' in the last few years. Working alongside some American friends who come over to lead the main talks and worship there is also so much more: trekking, biking, climbing, survival skills, daily Mass, Reconciliation, Prayer, Discussions, a day at Alton Towers and a mystery day out! It's 5 days at the end of July/beginning of August so speak to Rick you're interested! Check out last year's Camp in the video below!
