What is a sacrament?
Sacrament is taken from the Latin word 'sacramentum' which means 'a sign of the sacred'. Sacraments therefore point to the most sacred and important moments in the life of a Christian. These are special celebrations in the life of a Catholic and it is a joy to share these moments with you as a church community.
All Sacraments are an encounter with Christ, who is himself the original sacrament. There are sacraments of initiaton, which
introduce the recipient to faith: Baptism, Holy Communion, Confirmation. There are sacraments of healing: Reconciliation and Anointing of the
Sick. And there are sacraments of communion and mission: Marriage and Holy Orders.
